Conservation Ink became a force in Mongolian conservation in October, 2004, with the publication and delivery of its first two park map-guides and postcard sets, covering Altai Tavan Bogd and Khovsgol national parks. In 2006, we added several parks to the list, including Gobi Gurvansaikhan, the great sprawling desert park famous for dinosaur fossils and singing sand dunes. We also covered Gorkhi-Terelj and Hustai national parks. Terelj lies an hour east of the capital city, Ulaanbaatar in the southern Hentii Mountains. It preserves a prime sample of the classic mountain-steppe landscape of central Asia. Hustai, two hours west of the city, is renowned for its wild native horses, the takhi or Przwalski horse, which was successfully reintroduced in the 1990s.

We have established an office in Ulaanbaatar. Sales have been strong. The income stream has started. We're launched!

We owe a big thank-you to everyone who helped. We couldn't have done it without generous assistance from so many, but we're not stopping here.

Our publication program will continue as funding permits. There are many more parks and natural areas to cover. These are sure to become famous as ever-increasing numbers of visitors discover the beauties and warm culture of Mongolia. Also on our list are the ancient cultural, historic, and religious monuments of the country. Buddhist monasteries, isolated mountain-top temples, and archeologic sites represent a treasured heritage; but like the parks, almost nothing has ever been published about them. We hope to remedy that situation, but we need support to do it.

Again this year we are offering major donors a tus kii, a traditional embroidered wall-hanging from western Mongolia. Click here to see one. We have acquired a small number of these - every one unique. As a special thank-you gift, we will send a genuine tush kii to anyone who contributes $1000 or more to Conservation Ink. Donors of $100 or more will receive a complete set of the Altai and Khovsgol publications. Of course we are grateful for donations of any size and every donation is tax deductible.

Our goal, as always, is to produce the best educational information available in Mongolia; and to create a long-term sustainable source of income to support conservation in that country.

One of the most rewarding aspects of working in Mongolia is that we have a real chance of making something good happen. Recently opened to the world, it's a country at the tipping point. Things could go either way - toward exploitation of its natural wonders for short-term gain, or toward long-term sustainable protection.

It's our belief that a relatively small effort at this stage can have a proportionally large impact. That's why we think Mongolia is worth our time, and your contributions.
